new brony meet in calgary!

hello!

so its been a long while but it seems someone felt like grabbing the reigns and trying there hand at a meetup in Calgary themselves. there currently operating over facebook. if you are keen on joining this. here is some general info below!

the meet is in the MacEwan Centre food court. It's been too long since the last brony meet-up in Calgary. I'll be bringing a few card/board games to play if we feel like it. Just look for the guy in the black Legend of Zelda hat and pony t-shirt. It'll be a great time to meet some new people and talk about ponies! :)

not dead yet

hey guys.

so after chatting with a bunch of you at the BBQ, i have came to the conclusion that we will no longer be having our regular meetups. however we will still run events.
id also like to mention that folk wanted to have a way for us to continue to keep communication. and i completely agree.

so i opened  op a skype chat and also "made" a facebook group.  if you want to be added to either one of them (or both)  fire off the necessary info over to me so i can add you to them. i added who i could in my exhausted state. so im sure i missed some folk that i already have.

now i want you guys to help me with events by bringing them to my attention.

Noir, mentioned that there is  a  "direct to video" showing of  "friendship games" that if i remember correctly, he is hosting at his place in october 13th.
(Noir, if you are reading this. please tell me i got this correct, also i need your address so people can show up to this.)

one more note,
id like to thank everyone who came to the BBQ and loitered in my living room. i hope folk where not too uncomfortable. it felt like a bit of a tight squeeze. i hope my cooking was enjoyable. well... as enjoyable as frozen premade meat pattys and bulk cheap hotdogs can go anyways.

a sad note.

ok guys.

I know everyone was either doing their own thing, or was up at the con. But last night, aside from Dane, not a single person showed up to the meetup. This saddens me. (I was also quite bored)


I would also like to mention a note given to me by Sentry box staff. This is important to everyone so,

"Back when you came to me asking about hosting your events at the store I did mention that if we needed the space for any gaming events I would unfortunately have to claim back the space for that. I've now had a roleplaying group ask to book the back room every Saturday night and so, as of September, we will no longer have the back room available for your group. I wish I had more space available for events in general, but in this case I have to prioritise groups that are gaming ahead of non-gaming events."


I guess the big question I have to ask is this, "Should I call it quits." with lack of funding to do the things I want to do, lack of new members showing up, and no meetup area any longer, what do we do? Do I hunt for a new place to meetup? Do I pack it in and just close the meetup group?

I WANT TO KNOW  YOUR OPINIONS.  please comment below to let me know.

It's BBQ season yo

So we decided because we don't have too too many people in the group anymore, we wouldn't go through the hassle of booking a spot at the park this year. Instead we're going to have a nice little fire pit in I and Darcy's backyard and have an actual stove to cook things on.

So we decided on the 5th of September (which is already a meetup-night) at 6 till 9 (or whenever we make people leave.)
We're going to cautiously allow alcohol with the good faith that people won't over-indulge or drive home after drinking. (If you are going to drink and even consider driving, I'll be happy to keep your car keys and call you a cab.) There is a liquor store by the safeway in that strip mall, so please buy your own pick of drinks. There will also be minors around, so don't go offering your stuff to strangers.

Donations at the next meetup (22nd of August) would be greatly appreciated as we'll be providing the meat for the meat gods and marshmallows, soda, whatever other tasty items you want for your faces.

if you have allergies or a special diet requirement.(gluten allergy, vegan etc...) please bring your own meal. you can alternatively buy such items at the local Safeway that is nearby. i will be glad to prep whatever you bring me.

 DARCYS ADDENDUM: if you guys have extra lawn chairs and cooking skewers, please bring them along. we have only 1  skewer to knowledge and a few extra lawn chairs kicking about. i will also be inviting folk from the Otafest Pokemon League to join us.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Center GoFundMe

a bad and frustrateing day ( no meetup this weekend)

ok so i just had to go and deal with a bunch of things from my upstairs neighbors that i never should have needed to deal with. and still am.

i woke up from a 4 hour power nap to hear ika tell me that the ceiling is leaking (yet again) this time water is falling onto the ceiling fan. and it dripped all over a $70 book. so we went upstairs and found out there front door was wide open. no one home aside from the dogs. found out where the leak was and *fixed* it the best i could. since they cant bother to look at there respective phones to see im calling them to save there life.

i turn around to find out that one of the dogs ran outside and ika cant seem to find her.
we i just spent a madding amount of time hunting for a dog that has bit me twice, that i don't even like to get her inside.

so im sorry that i have to cancel the meetup on such short notice but we need to deal with damage control to the ceiling and the rest of the house.

hey everypony!

as some of you may or not may know last week on Friday, my workplace had to deal with a sizeable fire.
 beacuse of such, i have been "volentold" to go in and work this Saturday to catch up on  lost time. I'm by no means pleased with this. but nothing i can do about that really.
with that being said, ika also works that night. so the pony meet up is canceled (may 2nd.)
you can still go mind you.( i cant really stop you from hanging about sentry box) but we will not be playing any of the new episodes for you.

IN OTHER NEWS.
may 15-17 is Otafest! and as i have mentioned many times now, we will be there! i will be apart of the pokemon league as a gym leader this year so all of my time will be more or less dedicated to that room.
so there is no meet up that week either.
but you should totally show up! come battle me if you dare!

so the next meet up is MAY 30.
ugh.

Bowling fun time sports ball - the epilogue

So Saturday nights are pretty busy it seems! Next time we'll definitely make a reservation because the 4 of us waited over an hour. But it was still really fun and I'm thankful for the people that did come out.

These were our scores at the end of our game and a half of bowling. Darcy reigns supreme, but next time we'll beat him!

So as we said at the meetup, our good friend Rio is interested in hosting an outing at the Chinook Bowladrome (located in the south half of the mall near the Orange Julius)  next Saturday. (March 14th 2015)

I would suggest bringing $10-$20 cash per person to cover costs and of course some for snacks and whatever else you would enjoy. They do serve alcohol but we, as well as the venue, will not tolerate poor behaviour.

I believe we're looking at a 4:30pm-5pm start time and may finish at 6pm or 7pm, depending how many people turn up and how much we're enjoying ourselves.

Darcy's having a super bad streak with technology lately and his desktop isn't playing nice.

So remember how we said we didn't need any immediate donation for the group? Well the group doesn't, but if we could aim our donations towards Darcy.. that'd be pretty appreciated.

UPDATE:
hi everyone! Darcy here.

OK so i did get my desktop running again. however it seemed 2 of my 4 RAM sticks as well as 1 of my hard drives have completely died.
i assume the problem may have been caused by a power outage.

this is unfortunate since i know it will take a long while to recover  all that was lost. (not to mention slightly pricey at this point in time for me.)

More to come as we still figure out if it needs more work.

i was going to make a post. but then i got distracted. so i got ika to do it.

OK I'm kidding. but i am making an important post.

ota aurora success! news and random stuff.

so Ota was fun! i guess there wasn't as many folk there given it was black Friday and the weather was bad (ether out shopping or hiding in there homes from the crowds of shoppers)

for you folk who are looking for buttons. we got new designs. a whole 32 new ones! a crap ton of the mega evolutions from Pokemon X/Y and ORAS. we will continue as the days go by to make more. 
so if you want a button of your favorite mega. let us know!
we did quite well for selling buttons giving the low turnout. so I'm pretty glad the new designs are selling well. you should grab some buttons for stocking stuffers for Christmas.

also i got the Eon Ticket for Pokemon ORAS from Otafest so if anyone needs it. just pop on by the meet up and grab it from me for yourself.

anyone excited for season 5 of MLP yet? I'm curious as to what will be in store for us. when does that start? i dont remember.

we will go back to our regular meet up night on December 13.  might be another game night given we still do not have a laptop. but thats ok right?

is also like you guys to know that December 13 will also be the last meet up this year. i would like everyone to go out and relax through the holidays with friends and family.

Otafest Aurora

Hey guys,
Since Darcy will be at Otafest Aurora today, there will be no meet up.

The convention in question is at Sait and started at 10am. Darcy's helping to run a pokemon doubles tournament and will also have pokemon buttons for sale, including the new mega evolutions set.

Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks Movie Date

Hello everyone!
I hope everyone that went to the barbecue had a fun time and ate their fill of hotdogs. It's too bad we didn't really get the burgers going.. but oh well. We also had a short discussion about the new movie that's coming out this Saturday.

I feel it's a safe assumption that we will be at the Crowfoot Crossing Cineplex as that is where we went for the first movie. Their only showtime for Saturday, September 27th is at 11:15am. So be there or be.. asleep.. because weekends are meant for sleeping in.

We've also blown all the treasury money on the new projector and the barbecue, so if we can channel some Rarity generosity and help others go to the movie too, that would be awfully fantastic of us.

Now, last time we went, we made an assumption the theater was only for us. Please keep in mind there are others going to the movie and they want to be able to hear every piece of dialog just as badly as we do.

Annual BBQ!

Hey lads and ladies.
We have scheduled our barbecue for Saturday September 20th, from 10-3 at Edworthy park, site 6. Now. This is the same exact site we had last year, so I hope some of you remember where it is and can guide others to it.

Please, feel free to bring snacks and stuff but be prepared to being the leftovers home with you.. Darcy and I still have candies in our pantry from last year.. that I'm kind of less than pleased about.

Now we just have to hope for nice weather! Hope to see you there!

new projector came in the mail! yay!

so i was just handed the new projector for the meetup. so that's awesome. it helps out both me and strach/neko from delivering that mountain of a projector to the meet up.  its in handy fun size also so that's awesome.

i spent a good week looking online for the right one for us. and i hope it is as good as i hope it will be. it really came down to the wire on 2 models.  both of which are from the same store so that made things easy.
